The Coachella 2018 Lineup was announced today and I couldn't be more excited to be going back! I belong in the desert, my friends! Here are some of our memories from last year and my list of Coachella Festival 101s to get you informed and ready. The next batch of tickets is out this Friday (5 January) at Noon PST.
When is it? The festival runs for three days each year around the middle of April. Technically there are two festival sets at Coachella which you can attend; Weekend 1 (13-15 April) and Weekend 2 (20-22nd April). Weekend 1 is known for the celebrities, fashion, insta-crowd, whereas Weekend 2 is slightly more chilled and is more about the music.
How much is it? The price for both weekends is the same at $1,233 which you can pay over 7 instalments.
How do I get tickets? coachella.com releases advanced pre-sale tickets on the first week of June. The second group of tickets come out in January. This year they are being released this Friday (January 5th) at Noon PST.
Who is performing? The full line-up has been announced here. The headliners this year are The Weeknd, Beyonce and Eminem.
What is the festival schedule? The Coachella grounds open at noon, however, the festival doesn't properly get started until 3-4pm. The headlining acts are the last acts of each day and the festival ends around 1 am. This means during the day you have lots of time for brunching and pool parties. Most of the time they will be hosted by artists playing at Coachella, so it's a more intimate set and an incredible atmosphere to meet people, chillax and of course, go for a swim.
Where should I stay? There are many options and depends on what your priorities are! Last year I stayed in an affordable motel in Palm Springs which was actually really nice and I'll be going back this year too. We wanted somewhere cheap (we're paying £60 a night per person) and close to the pool parties. Check it out here. If you are looking to spend more and stay in Palm Springs then I would recommend staying in one of the following hotels as they host the main pool parties: ACE hotel, The Saguaro, Ingleside Inn, ARRIVE hotel, Musicland Hotel or Palm Springs Hilton. Normally it is extremely difficult to find a room during the Coachella days because they'll be booked out by artists and sponsors. If you do find a room, make sure your booking includes a pass to the pool parties. The festival site also offers all-inclusive hotel packages, glamping tents or frills-free parking spots to set up your own tent. More from the official Coachella site here.
How do I get around? You can either buy a Coachella Bus pass along with your ticket or rent a car and park for free! We had bus passes and didn't even use them once. Our motel was around a 25 min drive from the festival site and it gave us the flexibility to attend other parties before/after.
What should I wear? The festival has become synonymous with fashion. The absolute survival must-haves are: bandana for your face (1. to look G, 2. to protect yourself from the dust-there is a lot of it), boots for your feet (this is not the place to wear your new gladiator sandals). Also, one of those spray bottles that have a fan at the top will win you a lot of friends in the 40-degree desert heat.
