Swedish Midsummer in London

As you know, I live with three beautiful Swedish girls. We moved to Kensington after University to start our careers, wrap up our Masters Degrees, and become Londoners!

This year Sofie turned 25 and invited friends from home to celebrate Midsummer with us! It was a Swedish invasion to say the least and we were proudly housing 10 Nordics in our flat. Every year they talk about their Midsummer adventures back in Sweden and the unusual celebrations. These include doing a small frog dance around a maypole which resembles males genitalia, a strong affinity for herring (pickled herring, smoked herring, herring with dill...) and herb-infused snaps, hilarious songs about their Scandi neighbors...and of course the beautiful flower crowns!

We headed to Hyde Park to celebrate with the masses, drink unhealthy amounts of snaps and dance like little frogs.

As you can imagine, everyone was veeery hungry when we got back home! We didn't even bother heading to our living room, decided to pop a squat where the food was and and our kitchen was quickly turned into an indoor picnic! Everyone headed straight to our decadent buffet which was covered with all sorts of Swedish goods the girls had brought from home! My favorites were obviously the tasty meatballs and strawberry cake, Smaklig mÃ¥ltid!

Fuelled up and ready for the night to continue we headed to our courtyard for some fresh air and bubbles, before heading to Kensington Roof Gardens.

We had the most fabulous weekend, celebrating the longest day of summer with new friends and a never-ending lunch party with flowers in our hair. I'm already seriously excited for next year's celebrations, which (fingers crossed!!) will be in Sweden!
